Two days ago l started watching ‘Black Mirror’, a Netflix original series. Each episode forces you to question reality and its future. Episode 4 of Season 4, “Hang the DJ”, had a great impact on me. Individuals are paired up via a dating program called the ‘System’ that provides an expiration date for each couple. The ‘System’ eventually works out your significant other by the experiences of past dates, ultimately choosing ‘the one’ for you. Sounds great, doesn’t it? No stress about breaking up or having the heavy burden of choosing who you will spend the rest of your life with. It seems like a perfect reality, however, as the episode progresses you soon realise the social implications of this powerful technology.
